Syria, #MOAB, and North Korea

Does the administration know what they're doing? Obviously not. Why else play chicken with a country that's led by someone as crazy as he is? (I'm talking about North Korea.)

Before that, it was the #MOAB. (News I spent a lot of time avoiding, truth be told.) Yes, the promise was to go and bomb ISIS into oblivion. But did it do any good? Was is successful?

And then, of course, before that was the attack on Syria. Because he has been itching to do something about that for... Wait. What? He's been against any action there? Since when?

So, one of two things is true. Either this administration is wildly unfocused and has no idea what it's doing, or it's cannily trying to distract from something else that's way bigger. (cough, Russia, cough)

Whatever they're doing, they're making a mess of it. Or is that the whole idea...?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. Yes, you are right. Sometimes seemingly not so related moves in geompolitical scenario, are more for distracting the discerning citizens from a brewing affair right in the back yards.
    Good read!

  2. For me, the jury is still out on the Trump administration. At this stage, I'm going to hang on to the belief that there is method in their madness. Incidentally, NK officially threatened Australia today because of our friendship with the US. They obviously don't realize how much we despise bullies. I'd be in favour of military action against NK, but I don't think it will happen. I like China's idea to cut off their water supply. I don;t think a 'gunfight' with a rogue nuclear state would be wise. Interesting times we live in.

    1. You are more optimistic than me. I hope you're right.

  3. I think the most important thing to remember about that MOAB incident is that Xi was with Trump when he did it.

Also, that bomb cost something north of $300 million, and they killed 36 people with it. It sounds like a very expensive way to kill people, if you ask me.

    1. Killing people is always expensive. Just not always this blatantly.

    2. I guess that depends on how you define "expensive."

    3. I meant all human life is valuable, so taking a life takes from humanity. Then spending ridiculous amounts of money on top of that...

    4. Well, yes, then. But, if you're going to kill someone, it seems like spending nearly $9,000,000 to do it is a bit much.
You know, just from a practical standpoint.
